Full Members’ contact details are forwarded to ‘Protectivity’ (Liability Insurers).
Full Members contact details are also forwarded to Bee Disease Insurance. Those subscribing to beecraft will have their contact details forwarded to the publishers, as appropriate. (These are all governed by the Data Protection Act).
We recommend that the details of all of your permanent and temporary apiary locations are registered on Beebase www.nationalbeeunit.com or contact: The National Bee Unit, The Food and Environment Research Agency, Sand Hutton, York. YO4 11LZ. 01904 462510).
Membership fees do not include a fee for siting a hive at The British Bee Charity CIO apiaries There is an additional charge should you wish to keep colonies at the CIO apiaries and this will be subject to available space.
Full Membership benefits include quarterly newsletter and other mailings of The British Bee Charity CIO via Mailchimp, inclusion on whatsapp group/s, invitations to events, hire of extractor, access to library of books. Public and Product Liability Insurance through ‘Protectivity’ and Bee Disease Insurance (BDI for 3 colonies, see scale of charges for additional colonies if you need additional cover).
To gift aid your membership subscriptions/donations, you must pay or have paid, an amount of income tax and/or capital gains tax for each tax year (6th April-5th April) that is at least equal to the amount of tax that all charities will claim on the donor’s gift in each tax year. If you pay income tax at the higher or additional rate and want to receive the additional tax relief due to you, you must include your Gift Aid donations on your Self-Assessment tax return or ask HM Revenue and Customs to adjust your tax code.

The insurance runs consecutively from 1st April 2022 to 31st March 2023.
If during the current 2020-2021 BDI insurance period you unexpectedly expanded beyond your expectation you can increase your cover, although BDI insurers conditions will apply (please ask for information). If this is your first year or you have increased colonies since April, we can make a mid-term adjustment for you on the 31st October.
